Wholly Sufficient

When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold, your son!" Then He said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" From that hour the disciple took her into his own household.

Something I don’t think I have been very good about doing, and something that I think the rest of us should realize, is how important it is to take care of our parents. We need to do more than just the minimum for them. That’s something I have come to realize. It’s a hard thing to do, too. We should be willing to do what it takes to be a blessing to them, and more so, to help them in their times of need.

I don’t know in what form this help may come due to each family’s unique needs, but I know that for my part it means doing more, and worrying about myself less.

What about people who are estranged from their parents? This is a tough one. I mean, you can’t very well help them while you are estranged, but one should remember to honor them regardless of your relationship with them. Honor does not always entail obedience, but it always entails a level of respect. Let us remember to respect and honor our parents.
